This insurance, usually <a href=\"https:\/\/landlords.alanboswell.com\/stage1?utm_source=2619&amp;utm_medium=website&amp;utm_campaign=landlords&amp;utm_content=Letting-a-property\">building and contents insurance<\/a>, will cover serious damage to the property and to any furnishing or appliances that your landlord has provided. One thing this insurance doesn\u2019t cover is <em>your <\/em>stuff \u2013 that\u2019s why you need <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tenantsquote.co.uk\/2619\">tenant&#8217;s insurance<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why should I get tenant&#8217;s insurance?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Whilst tenant&#8217;s insurance is not a legal requirement, it does offer peace of mind and will help protect the tenant should the worst happen. Tenant&#8217;s insurance will also cover any damage sustained to the landlord\u2019s belongings caused by either the tenant themselves or visiting guests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What does tenant&#8217;s insurance cover?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Tenant&#8217;s insurance \u2013 or tenant&#8217;s contents insurance \u2013 covers the majority of your belongings in the event of theft, flood, fire or accidental damage. Most policies include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All furnishing and appliances that belong to the tenant<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The loss or theft of keys to the property and the cost of having an alarm system fitted and locks changed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any cash or credit cards stolen from the property<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A set amount to cover any spoiled frozen food as a result of an incident, such as a power cut<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accidental damage to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lettingaproperty.com\/landlord\/blog\/landlord-electrical-safety\/\">electrical items<\/a>, such as TVs, tablets and phones<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alternative accommodation in the event that an incident, such as a flood or fire, causes a tenant to move out for a period of time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Deposit\nprotection and legal cover<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Most tenants\u2019 contents insurance policies help protect the\ntenant\u2019s deposit by covering any damage to the property and the landlord\u2019s\nbelongings within that property. This type of cover is also known as tenant\u2019s\nliability insurance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The majority of policies will also provide legal cover. This\nwill be useful should a dispute arise between the tenant and the landlord, or if\nthe tenant is injured as a result of a fault within the property which was the\nlandlord\u2019s responsibility and the tenant wishes to put in a claim for\ncompensation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Student tenant&#8217;s insurance<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As a student, it is possible to take out a policy even when you rent just a single room in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lettingaproperty.com\/landlord\/blog\/student-landlords\/\">shared accommodation<\/a> or in halls of residence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Student insurance enables the individual to insure just one\nvaluable item or a whole host of personal belongings such as cameras, laptops, tablets,\nTVs, phones and even their bicycle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The student insurance will also provide cover for accidental\ndamage and vandalism as well as a set amount for the misuse of credit cards in\nthe event that they are stolen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Your landlord\u2019s responsibility<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As the owner of the building, your landlord is responsible for<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lettingaproperty.com\/landlord\/blog\/why-you-need-landlords-insurance\/\"> insuring the property<\/a>.
