Switching to an online letting agency

Alan Pellowe is an experienced disaster management advisor, so is well versed in providing people with guidance on how to handle emergencies.

However, it was an experience of high street letting agencies managing his property that proved disastrous in 2011. Alan owned a property in South Birmingham, as did his partner Jools. Whilst purchasing their first home together in the countryside, they both planned to retain their individual properties for rental income.

Whilst Jools has continued with the services from her local letting agent, Alan has found things a lot more troublesome from his. He explained, “I was very unhappy with my agency, which was supposed to be fully managing my property.

For the management fee I was paying, I found myself managing most of the Tenant’s calls myself, which meant paying for an agency service I ended up doing.” If this was frustrating in itself, the high cost of that agency service made matters worse. Alan continued, “Jools and I were interesting in making property rental a business proposition, but the fees charged by my letting agency really looked like restricting profitability.”

Alan concluded, “I really haven’t regretted moving from a High Street agency - it shows that face-to-face contact doesn’t necessarily mean you get a better service.”
