Landlords advised to carry out inventories

Property InventoryA letting agent has voiced its concern about landlords failing to provide inventories for their clients.

According to Southampton-based Tenants Direct, landlords can ensure they are protected via an inventory by renting out their properties through a professional letting agency.

“Without a proper inventory in place there is very little chance of a dispute being amicably settled,” it noted.

The letting agent added that it often uses a DVD inventory service in order to provide both landlords and tenants with peace of mind.

“It provides complete clarity from both the landlord’s and tenant’s point of view,” it said.

This comes shortly after government-authorised tenancy deposit protection scheme mydeposits.co.uk issued tips to students preparing to move into rental accommodation, such as ensuring an inventory is in place.

It will be an important document for students when they come to check out of the property at the end of the tenancy, the website stated.

This is really basic stuff for anyone letting a property, nearly as important as a contract. Follow the basics and it will usually keep you and your tenant ok.
